On Saturday, 12th November, LLTGL chief executive Emily and advocate Kirstie Tancock attended the Donor Family Network event Share, Remember, Celebrate.

The day took place at the Tally Ho Centre in Birmingham, and consisted of three parts. It started with the sharing and creative workshops where donor families had the opportunity to share stories, experiences and ways of coping, or could participate in creative workshops to express their feelings.

After lunch a ceremony of recognition and remembrance of each donor took place. The ceremony included the presentation of certificates to donor families and the reading of messages. After this extremely moving presentation came a celebration of life, where Emily, Kirstie, and heart recipient Andy Cook read out messages and poems from fellow recipients, about gratitude, and about their new lives, made possible by their incredible donors. Pieces of music chosen by recipients to reflect their feelings about their donor were also played.

To conclude the day a beautiful rose was planted, and dozens of messages of love were placed inside the pot. These messages will eventually turn to earth and become part of the rose itself.

The day was very emotional for everyone involved, but a truly beautiful one of remembrance, tears, and celebration. The Donor Family Network worked extremely hard to create such a wonderful event, and we look forward to supporting them again next year.
